Monrovian Celebrates 101 Years

Published: Thursday, May 13th, 2010

You’d never know it upon meeting Marion Melon, but this was a major milestone of a birthday. Marion Melon, a member of New Horizons Senior Club, was treated to a special birthday treat Tuesday at the community center celebrating 101 years. Originally from Akron, Ohio Marion settled here to be close to her long time friend Betty Stiles , also member of the club. On hand for the fun and getting a little help blowing out the candles was Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz and Cousin Paul Stone along with scores of friends from the club .
We asked Marion what kept her so young looking…”just good clean living I guess” she said with an enchanting smile.

Marion Melon is one of the kindest and most caring human beings I have met in my life. Amazing at 101 years old. I had the pleasure of assisting her with with her emergency lifeline setup and she was more concerned about me having my needs met that having her own. I am so glad that she she was honored with such a wonderful birthday celebration. Happy Birthday, Marion!!!!!!
