Duarte Family Home Burglarized and Vandalized

Sheriff’s Detectives and City Continuing Investigation
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Detectives and members of the Sheriff’s gang unit are continuing to investigate the burglary and vandalism of a Duarte family’s home on Friday night (May 
on Broach Ave., near Galen Street. The perpetrators spray-painted racial slurs and gang symbols throughout the house and on the family’s belongings. The victimized family of two adults and three young children is not believed to have any gang affiliation, said Duarte Sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Haynes.
The incident left the family too afraid to remain in the home. The family has been staying at a hotel since Friday and Victims Assistance has stepped in to help permanently relocate the family.
“This incident is unacceptable. Our public safety department is working very closely with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to follow up on all viable leads in order to bring a timely resolve to this case,” said Duarte City Manager, Darrell George.
Mayor John Fasana was incensed by the crime. “We are sadly reminded that there are those in our community who would judge and persecute others based on the color of their skin. We have worked in the City of Duarte to chart a course that builds on our strengths and diversity as a community. This despicable act does not alter our course.”
The City of Duarte Public Safety Department is working closely with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to bring the perpetrators to justice.
