A magnitude-5.9 earthquake was felt in Los Angeles late Wednesday afternoon just before 5pm.

The quake struck at 4:53 p.m. The epicenter was located about 13 miles north-northwest of Borrego Springs and 25 miles southwest of Indio.

Early reports indicate the quake was felt from San Diego to Los Angeles and in Riverside counties.

Staff at the Beacon Media newsroom were suddenly jolted, albeit gently, as the newspapers were going to bed. The motion was described as gentle sideways(est to west) motion.
