Temecula resident Andrew McGregor, Produce Director of Henry’s Farmers Market, was recently selected as the 2009 National Produce Retailer of the Year by Produce Merchandising Magazine, the national industry publication of the Produce Marketing Association (PMA). McGregor was nominated and voted upon by the entire supermarket industry, including members of the PMA and competing retailers.
Henry’s Farmers Market is a 32-store chain of markets in Southern California that was started by Henry Boney in 1943 in San Diego and has since spread throughout Orange County and Los Angeles, as well as surrounding areas, including Riverside and San Bernardino.
The popular market chain has continuously received high consumer recognition, based on voting from readers of local newspapers, as well as viewers of local TV stations, for “favorite natural food store,” “best health food store,” “best place to buy produce,” and “best value for quality food.”
McGregor describes shopping at the friendly, neighborhood Henry’s Farmers Markets as “reminiscent of produce stands and corner butcher shops of the 1950s. We’re proud to support local California area farmers, fishermen and suppliers whenever possible,” says McGregor. “It promotes sustainability and enables us to offer our customers the freshest and most practically-priced products available.”
Henry’s also offers one of the largest healthy living departments around, with a wide assortment of vitamins, supplements, herbs, and natural body care products to fit every lifestyle.
McGregor graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in molecular biology. He became a produce clerk at Wild Oats Market in 1993 and got hooked on the business. He started working at Henry’s Farmers Market in 2004 after working his way up the ladder in the produce industry.
what does this have to do with monrovia?
As you may know, Henry’ Market just opened a new store in Monrovia. As they move into the local marketplace, we thought this accolade would be of interest to community members needing a little more information about the new store in town.
Thanks for the comment. Hope this helps.
