The Monrovia Association of Fine Arts known as MAFA has announced this years’ Renaissance Award recipient as Scott Ochoa. The Renaissance Award is given every year to honor and recognize a special member of the community whose contributions to their fellow citizens leads to the cultural enrichment of the community as a whole. The public is invited to join MAFA members and guests on Saturday evening May 15th, 2010 in celebrating the generous accomplishments and inspiring leadership of Scott Ochoa, Monrovia’s own City Manager. Additional recognition and honors goes to Penny Arroyo, MAFA’s energetic Hearts-In-The-Arts winner for her tireless efforts as the Recreation Coordinator for City of Monrovia in the Department of Community Services. Plan to stop by to participate in all the exciting activities planned for this commemorative day at the Paint-n-Play Art Studio & Gallery at 418 South Myrtle Avenue in Old Town Monrovia (from 7pm – 10:00pm) During the Black Tie Event or BTE, where there are no actual black ties required, there will be a silent art auction, in addition to lively jazz music, a raffle, door prizes, hors d’oeurves, wine and spirits.
Tickets to this event are available through the MAFA website to purchase through PayPal. All proceeds go to benefit art programs in local schools. Tickets are $25 in advance and $40 at the door. Local artists who donate artwork to help raise money for after-school programs include photographers, oil painters, watercolorists, sculptors, collage artists as well as dedicated artistic craftsmen and craftswomen in their design field. The “Black Tie” Event is the major annual fundraiser for Monrovia Association of Fine Arts. It helps to raise funds to help MAFA provide programs and sponsor events such as the Palette Grants, Arts Walks, Galleries and the October Art Festival.
