mary wilcox center The Santa Anita Family YMCA has entered into an agreement with the City of Monrovia to take over operation of the Mary Wilcox Youth Center to provide programming for youth after school and on weekends.

Under a three year lease agreement, the SAFYMCA will operate the 10,000 square foot facility located at 843 E. Olive Ave. that includes a gymnasium, three meeting rooms, snack bar, and the KGEM cable access production studio.

“This comes as a blessing to the YMCA because many of our programs are at capacity. This gives us an opportunity to expand services and give more kids the opportunity to benefit from YMCA programs,” said SAFYMCA Chief Executive Officer, Damon Colaluca.

The SAFYMCA has already begun to utilize the Mary Wilcox Center for YMCA Youth Basketball and Karate. Between now and the new year other programs for youth and families will operate out of the center, including a number of new after school programs.

The building was originally an Armory, operating at such until 2001. The City of Monrovia then took over the building and, following renovations, rededicated and operated it as the Mary Wilcox Youth Center for three years.

Over the last two years, during construction of the new Monrovia City Library, the facility served as a temporary library.
